Snorkel Mask Comparison 2026: The Best Full-Face Snorkel Masks Compared

Christian Hanauer Updated 20 min read

Snorkel Mask Comparison 2026 – The Key Facts at a Glance:

Our recommendation: Khroom Seaview Pro Plus (9.6/10) – one of the few masks with pressure equalization, built for CO₂ safety

Best value: Khroom Seaview Pro (9.2/10) – CO₂ level measured by SGS, panoramic view

Kids' pick: Khroom Seaview Kids (9.4/10) – CO₂ level of the inhaled air measured and passed by TÜV Rheinland on a test sample

Most important criterion: CO₂ safety – separate airways with check valves, best confirmed by an independent test report.

Transparency notice: Khroom is the manufacturer of the Seaview masks. This comparison reflects our own assessment, based on the criteria listed below – not the judgment of an independent testing body. For our assessment of CO₂ safety we rely exclusively on independent test reports (TÜV, SGS, DEKRA), which we provide for download.

Looking for the best snorkel mask for 2026? In our comprehensive snorkel mask comparison, we took a close look at the most popular full-face snorkel masks. The focus here isn't marketing promises, but verifiable facts: CO₂ safety, material quality, and independent test reports.

The market for full-face snorkel masks keeps growing – and unfortunately, so does the number of low-quality products without a tested ventilation system. The safety debate around full-face masks – following tragic incidents in Hawaii, for example – has shown just how important reliable CO₂ venting is. That's exactly why we weight CO₂ safety as by far the most important criterion.

In this article you'll find everything you need for a well-founded purchase decision: traceable ratings, comparison tables, safety information, and a clear recommendation – based on independent test reports and our years of experience.

Snorkel mask, dive mask, or diving mask? Many people say "dive mask" or "diving mask" but actually mean a full-face snorkel mask. The difference matters: a full-face snorkel mask has the snorkel already built in and is made for snorkeling at the surface – you breathe normally through your mouth and nose. A classic dive mask (diving goggles) covers only the eyes and nose; breathing happens through a separate snorkel or, in scuba diving, through a regulator. That's why the dive mask is the one made for diving down. One exception among full-face masks is the Seaview Pro Plus: thanks to pressure equalization, short dives of a few meters are also possible. More on this: Snorkel mask vs. dive mask – which is better?

1. Our rating criteria: what really matters for snorkel masks

Not every snorkel mask that looks good is actually safe. For our 2026 snorkel mask comparison, we rate each model across six clearly defined categories.

1.1 CO₂ safety (weight: 30%)

The most important criterion. A safe snorkel mask must reliably vent exhaled CO₂ out of the mask. That requires a separate inhale and exhale system secured by valves. Without this separation, so-called dead-space rebreathing occurs: some of the used air gets inhaled again, which can lead to dizziness, headaches, and in the worst case, loss of consciousness.

What matters is the construction: separate inhale and exhale airways with check valves. We rate highest the masks whose CO₂ level has additionally been measured by an independent testing institute (TÜV, DEKRA, SGS). Manufacturer claims alone aren't enough.

1.2 Material quality & workmanship (weight: 20%)

High-quality silicone is essential for both seal and comfort. We check the silicone quality (silicone vs. PVC), how well the face seal fits, the construction of the clip buckles and straps, and the sturdiness of the snorkel. Masks with a cheap plastic smell or visible mold seams score noticeably lower here.

1.3 Field of view & panoramic view (weight: 15%)

A large field of view makes the difference between a good and an outstanding snorkeling experience. We assess the actual visible area, distortion at the edges, anti-fog properties, and the optical clarity of the lens.

1.4 Fit & wearing comfort (weight: 15%)

The mask has to seal tightly without causing pressure points. We assess adaptability to different face shapes, the quality and adjustability of the head straps, the weight of the mask, and pressure distribution over longer wear times.

1.5 Features (weight: 10%)

Extra features such as pressure equalization, action cam mount, a removable snorkel, and available spare parts factor in here. Pressure equalization in particular is a decisive advantage for more advanced snorkelers.

1.6 Price-to-performance ratio (weight: 10%)

What do you get for your money? We weigh overall quality against the selling price, also taking into account what's included, available spare parts, and the product's sustainability (think: fin straps and individual parts you can buy separately).

2. 2026 recommendation table: all results at a glance

The comparison table below lists all the snorkel masks we reviewed along with our assessment. Sorted by our overall rating – our recommendation is at the top.

Rank Model CO₂ testing Standout feature Our rating Award
1 Khroom Seaview Pro Plus Built for CO₂ safety Pressure equalization, panoramic 9.6/10 Our pick for advanced snorkelers
2 Khroom Seaview Kids TÜV Rheinland (partial CO₂ test) Designed specifically for kids (ages 3–10) 9.4/10 Kids' pick
3 Khroom Seaview Pro SGS test report 180° panoramic, top value 9.2/10 Best value
4 Khroom Seaview X DEKRA test report Rugged 9.0/10 Pick for narrow faces
5 Decathlon Easybreath 900 Manufacturer claim Flagship model with pressure equalization 5.2/10 –
6 Decathlon Easybreath 500 Manufacturer claim Very affordable, no bag included 5.1/10 –
7 Kaimana snorkel mask No test report for all sizes and versions see analysis 3.3/10 Not recommended
Note on our ratings: For CO₂ safety, what counts for us is a construction with separate airways and check valves, plus independent test reports (TÜV, DEKRA, SGS). Manufacturer claims alone, without any recognizable valve protection, aren't enough. We rate all masks using the same six weighted criteria; the individual scores appear in each product section.

Our 2026 pick

3.1 Khroom Seaview Pro Plus – Our pick (9.6/10)

Khroom Seaview Pro Plus snorkel mask – our pick in the 2026 snorkel mask comparison with pressure equalization

The Khroom Seaview Pro Plus is our clear pick for 2026. It combines CO₂ safety, innovative pressure equalization, and outstanding visibility in a single mask. What sets it apart from many other models: the built-in nose flaps allow for active pressure equalization – a feature that's still rare in full-face snorkel masks and that's usually found only on classic dive goggles.

The Seaview Pro Plus is one of the few masks on the market that offers this feature. For snorkelers who also want to dive down a few meters now and then, that's a decisive advantage over most other full-face masks.

CO₂ safety is ensured by Khroom's proven valve system: inhale and exhale air are consistently kept separate, and check valves prevent rebreathing of used air. The build quality is premium-level – with a removable dry-top snorkel and high-quality clip buckles.

Pros

  • Rare: pressure equalization on a full-face mask
  • Valve system built for CO₂ safety
  • 180° panoramic view, largely distortion-free
  • Excellent fit
  • Built-in action cam mount
  • Every spare part available individually
  • Featured on "Die Höhle der Löwen"

Cons

  • Higher price than entry-level models
  • Requires some snorkeling experience

2026 kids' pick

3.2 Khroom Seaview Kids – Kids' pick (9.4/10)

Khroom Seaview Kids children's snorkel mask for kids ages 3 to 10 – CO₂ level tested by TÜV Rheinland

When it comes to children's safety, there's no room for compromise. For the Seaview Kids, there's a test report from TÜV Rheinland LGA Products GmbH (Report No. DE21RL4O-001, dated 24.03.2021). What was tested – and what wasn't:

  • Tested: the CO₂ level of the inhaled air, measured with the test setup from EN 136:1998, Section 8.14 (test basis TÜV 2 PfG 2609). The measurement took place on 22.03.2021 at DEKRA Testing and Certification GmbH in Essen.
  • Result: 0.61 to 0.96 vol.% CO₂, with a maximum of 1.5 vol.% allowed. Passed.
  • Test subject: a test sample we submitted ourselves. The sample tested was a children's mask sample that we sell today as the Seaview Kids. The report lists it without a type designation (internal project name "Seaview BC").

Designed specifically for kids ages 3 to 10, the Seaview Kids offers a kid-friendly fit with especially soft silicone and a kid-friendly design.

Video: Khroom snorkel mask for kids – overview & recommendation

Pros

  • CO₂ level measured by TÜV Rheinland: 0.61–0.96 vol.% (limit 1.5%)
  • Test report available for download
  • Soft face seal, kid-friendly size (ages 3–10)
  • Kid-friendly design
  • Dry-top snorkel prevents water entry

Cons

  • Kids decide emotionally whether they'll wear the mask

Best value pick

3.3 Khroom Seaview Pro – Best value pick (9.2/10)

Khroom Seaview Pro snorkel mask – best value pick with SGS test report and 180-degree panoramic view

The Seaview Pro has been Khroom's bestseller for years – and for good reason. It combines a CO₂-safe construction with an excellent price-to-performance ratio. SGS measured the CO₂ level of the inhaled air: an average of 0.29 vol.% (test report GZHL2212145915HM, dated 17.01.2023, test setup from EN 136). The 180° panoramic field of view is among the best in our comparison, and the build quality leaves nothing to be desired in everyday use.

For most snorkelers, the Seaview Pro is the right choice. If you don't need pressure equalization and want a reliable, CO₂-safe mask with panoramic view, this is the one for you. It's no coincidence this mask was part of the pitch on Die Höhle der Löwen. Also recommended on tauchliebe.de.

Pros

  • CO₂ level measured by SGS (test report)
  • 180° panoramic view
  • Outstanding price-to-performance ratio
  • Proven and sold thousands of times over
  • Action cam mount, spare parts available

Cons

  • No pressure equalization (for that: Seaview Pro Plus)

3.4 Decathlon Easybreath 900 (5.2/10)

The Decathlon Easybreath 900 is the flagship model in the Easybreath line: it has pressure equalization, making it Decathlon's counterpart to the Seaview Pro Plus. On the plus side: wide availability in Decathlon stores and simple handling.

In our comparison, the fit showed some weaknesses: some of our testers reported pressure points around the nose during extended use. In our view, the material quality is functional but, in our opinion, doesn't reach the level of high-quality silicone face seals.

3.5 Decathlon Easybreath 500 (5.1/10)

The Easybreath 500 is Decathlon's entry-level model. Christian Hanauer bought it in July 2026 at the Dubai Mall and tested it in the sea at the beach of the Park Hyatt in Abu Dhabi.

Build quality and what's included: There's nothing to complain about in terms of build quality – the silicone is cleanly molded. On what's included, though, Decathlon cuts back further: the snorkel is now just a simple push-fit, and it doesn't even come with a mesh bag. The mask arrives exactly as it hangs on the shelf.

Fit: As with the Easybreath 900, the silicone frame is very narrow. With a more pronounced chin, the chin can slip out of the mask, and water pressure can push the mask upward. During testing, a slight draft was also felt at the eye, caused by breathing air flowing back from the mouth-and-nose chamber. Because of this, the mask had to be pressed on more firmly. Light marks on the face are normal when snorkeling, but on the narrow Decathlon frame they showed up as distinct pressure welts.

Verdict from the hands-on test: a solid mask for anyone focused mainly on price – not bad, but not good either. Low price, correspondingly basic equipment.

3.6 Kaimana snorkel mask (3.3/10)

The Kaimana mask is sold on Amazon in several versions: in adult sizes with two internal valves and, in the newer version, with four, plus youth and kids' sizes. It's marketed with many positive reviews and several seals and awards, including a licensed Vergleich.org seal and a Prüfengel seal. What these seals actually mean and what the CO₂ test report linked in the Kaimana manual states, we break down in the fact-check of the Kaimana snorkel mask.

Our measurement comparison with the OUSPT mask: We measured a Kaimana in turquoise, size L-XL, the version with two internal valves (bought on 27.07.2025 on Amazon.de) against an OUSPT mask of the same size. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a warning about the OUSPT on 05.03.2026 (Warning No. 26-311). On this unit, all three measurement points matched; we found differences only in decorative cover caps and the logo. We did not compare the newer four-valve version, or the youth and kids' sizes, with the OUSPT. The CPSC did not examine the Kaimana itself. All measurements and photos: CPSC warns about the OUSPT snorkel mask – our measurement comparison with a Kaimana mask.

Our overall score is based on the six criteria below. It's not based on the CPSC warning, but on test evidence, build quality, field of view, fit, features, and price-to-performance.

The build quality is decent. In our hands-on test (adult size, version with two internal valves), the mask stood out for its very tight fit and a loud, honking breathing sound. In Amazon reviews, some users also report fogging in the viewing area. The advertised quick release actually slows down removal: by the time you've found the button by feel, you could have simply pulled the mask off your head.

Ruling on the seal advertising: In a ruling dated 13.11.2025 (case no. 327 O 380/24), the Hamburg Regional Court prohibited the seller of the Kaimana mask, following a lawsuit from Khroom, from using the online advertising then at issue featuring the "IGR," "Next Design Award," and "dermatest" seals, as well as the "Prüfengel" test result. For "IGR," "Next Design Award," and "dermatest," the court found that an easily findable source for the respective test was missing. The "Prüfengel" result applied to the adult mask, but was used to advertise the kids' mask. Also prohibited were an image of a camera not included in the package, and the claim "Breathe up to 3x easier." The ruling is not final; the seller has filed an appeal with the Hamburg Higher Regional Court. It concerns the specific advertising challenged at the time, not the seals as such and not current advertising. More on this: Kaimana test seals: the Hamburg Regional Court ruling
CO₂ safety Weight 30%The TÜV SÜD report linked in the Kaimana manual (EN 136:1998, Section 7.18) contains measurements for only one sample in size S/M. It names the product as "LGC (S/M, L/XL)," a designation we can't find in the current Kaimana listing; the brand name, version, and number of valves don't appear in the report. The photos in the report show a mesh bag without the Kaimana logo. For L/XL, the four-valve version, and the kids' mask, we have no report we can attribute to them.

4. Safety guide: CO₂ buildup, pressure equalization & safe snorkeling

Safety comes first when snorkeling. In this section, we cover the two most important safety aspects of full-face snorkel masks: CO₂ buildup and pressure equalization.

4.1 The CO₂ problem: why cheap masks can become dangerous

When you exhale, your body releases carbon dioxide (CO₂). In a well-designed snorkel mask, this CO₂ is vented outside through a separate exhale channel. In low-quality masks, some of the CO₂ stays inside the mask – creating what's known as dead-space rebreathing (CO₂ rebreathing).

The consequences of CO₂ rebreathing:

  • Mild: headaches, dizziness, feeling unwell
  • Moderate: disorientation, shortness of breath, panic
  • Severe: loss of consciousness – potentially life-threatening in water

A fogged-up field of view can be an early warning sign of insufficient air circulation. If the lens keeps fogging up even though the mask fits correctly, that can point to problems with CO₂ venting.

How Khroom protects you: All Khroom snorkel masks have separate inhale and exhale channels with check valves. Test reports on the CO₂ level of the inhaled air are available for the Seaview Pro (SGS), the Seaview X (DEKRA), and the Seaview Kids (TÜV Rheinland, test sample).

4.2 Pressure equalization: why it matters

When diving down, water pressure on the eardrum increases. Pressure equalization – pinching the nose and gently pushing air against the closed nostrils (the Valsalva maneuver) – equalizes this pressure and prevents ear pain.

With conventional full-face snorkel masks, pressure equalization isn't possible by design, since the nose is enclosed behind the viewing lens. The Khroom Seaview Pro Plus solves this problem with built-in nose flaps that let you pinch your nose from the outside – a solution that's rare among full-face masks.

Dig deeper: Snorkel mask vs. dive mask – which is better?

4.3 Safety rules for full-face snorkel masks

  • Never snorkel alone – always go with at least one other person or in a group.
  • Test the mask beforehand – check fit and seal in shallow water.
  • Breathe calmly and evenly – avoid rushed, shallow breaths.
  • Get out immediately if you feel unwell – dizziness, headaches, or shortness of breath are warning signs.
  • Pay attention to CO₂ safety – separate airways with valves, ideally backed by an independent test report.
  • Watch out for currents – check local conditions beforehand.

5. Buying guide: how to find the right snorkel mask

5.1 Which model suits you?

Beginners & occasional snorkelers: The Khroom Seaview X offers a DEKRA test report on the CO₂ level at an attractive price.

Regular & advanced snorkelers: The Seaview Pro is the ideal all-rounder.

Ambitious snorkelers who also want to dive down: The Seaview Pro Plus is our pick if pressure equalization matters to you – a feature that's rare among full-face masks.

Kids (ages 3–10): We recommend the Seaview Kids – designed specifically for children, with a CO₂ level measured by TÜV Rheinland on a test sample.

Glasses wearers: All Khroom masks are compatible with the optical inserts (up to -8.0 diopters).

5.2 Checklist before you buy

  • Is there an independent test report on the CO₂ level (TÜV, DEKRA, SGS)?
  • Is the mask available in the right size for your face shape?
  • Is the face seal made of high-quality silicone (not PVC)?
  • Can spare parts be bought individually (sustainability)?
  • Are there transparent manufacturer details and reachable customer service?
  • Do you need pressure equalization (regular diving down)?

6. Conclusion & buying recommendation: the best snorkel mask 2026

After our comprehensive 2026 snorkel mask comparison, one thing is clear: CO₂ safety isn't an optional feature – it's the single most important requirement for a snorkel mask worth recommending. Look for separate airways with check valves – and ideally an independent test report on the CO₂ level.

Our clear recommendation is the Khroom Seaview Pro Plus (9.6/10). It combines what only a few full-face snorkel masks offer: CO₂ safety, pressure equalization, and panoramic view in one product. In our view, the best choice on the market for ambitious snorkelers.

If you're after an outstanding price-to-performance ratio, go for the Seaview Pro (9.2/10) – the reliable all-rounder with an SGS test report.

For kids, we recommend the Seaview Kids (9.4/10) – designed specifically for children, with a CO₂ level measured by TÜV Rheinland.

What all Khroom masks have in common: German development, a CO₂-safe construction with separate airways, individually available spare parts, and a company that stands transparently behind its products – featured on Die Höhle der Löwen and with excellent reviews on Trustpilot.

Our recommendations at a glance:

Seaview Pro Plus – our pick, pressure equalization, premium

Seaview Pro – best value pick, bestseller

Seaview Kids – kids' pick, CO₂ level measured by TÜV

Seaview X – DEKRA test report, solid entry point
